The Cardiosolutions Percu-Pro™ System consists of a proprietary catheter system, a Mitra-Spacer™ and a reversible anchoring mechanism. The Mitra-Spacer™ may be placed in the left side of the heart by either of two implantation procedures: one targeting the interventional cardiologist, and the other targeting the cardiovascular surgeon. For the cardiologist, a small, steerable, catheter-based delivery system has been developed for a percutaneous procedure via femoral access. For the surgeon, a shortened delivery system has been built for an open surgical procedure via a small incision in the chest and trans-apical access to the mitral valve. Both delivery methods are reversible and securely anchor the Mitra-Spacer in the mitral valve in less than 45 minutes. The procedure is safe, simple and secure. The device does not alter the mitral valve in any way that would preclude a patient from having open valve repair or replacement surgery at a future time.
